Improve your Kitchen on a Budget

The kitchen is arguably the most important room in any property. It’s where all the action happens – cooking up a storm, dinner parties with guests, spending time with family. Food brings people together and lots of days start and end in the kitchen. It makes sense to make your kitchen a priority and give it the wow factor, as this will be what lots of potential buyers are looking at when they view your property.

You don’t have to completely renovate a kitchen before you put a property up for sale, this can be really costly, but you can make lots of small changes on a budget to make big improvements.

Let’s look at a few ways you can improve your kitchen in affordable ways.

Cabinets

When you walk into a kitchen, one of the first things that grabs your attention is the cabinets. They take up such a lot of kitchen space that the colour/materials you choose can have a big impact on the aesthetics of a room. You don’t have to completely replace the cabinets, you could just remove and replace the front of a cabinet if you want to make changes or just get your paintbrush out and give them a lick of paint – you may need to use a primer, but chalk paint can be a good option too.

Be savvy with the colours you’re choosing, it can transform the look of a kitchen. You can experiment with different ideas as well and leave doors off and have open space cabinets with shelving for something a bit more unusual.

Worktops

Worktops are another element of a kitchen that can have a big impact because your eye is drawn to them as you walk into a room. They take up a lot of surface space, so the colour and material of worktops can be a great idea for instant impact. It doesn’t have to cost the earth to replace either and you can get imitations of materials such as marble, by using laminate effects. There are attractive wood effects to be used as well. Again, think about the colour and what will work well with the space.

Lighting

Creating a good atmosphere and ambience is another part of the cost-effective variety of things you can do to give your kitchen a new look. Statement lighting hanging over an island or a table can give a nice spotlight effect. You can experiment with where you want light in the kitchen, making a warmer atmosphere and adding more emphasis to certain areas with more or less lighting.

Hardware

They might not be the most glamourous upgrades but changing your hardware, such as taps, door handles etc can add some quirky touches to a kitchen. You can find some really attractive vintage hardware that can change the look of a kitchen without making massive changes.
